Founded in 1842 we have a unique and rich history in patient health care that you simply won't find anywhere else.
Rimmington’s Pharmacy is a 182-year-old city centre pharmacy situated in the heart of Bradford. It’s the only remaining continuously operating business from the Victorian era still present in the city centre to this day. Founded by Felix Rimmington (personal chemist to queen Victoria), it has recently been awarded a blue plaque by the Bradford Civic Society.

Our Journey

1842
After working with Queen Victoria's personal chemist, Felix Rimmington setup his pharmacy on Ive Gate in the centre of Bradford.

1858
'Humbug Poisoning' case 20 die and 100s become ill. Rimmington investigates and concludes arsenic used instead of the usual bulking agent.

1868
A new pharmacy act is passed partly in light of Rimminton's many investigations.

1875
Rimmington's Pharmacy moves to Bridge Street and works with local authorities to help enforce the 1875 sale of food & drugs act.

1888
A gruesome 'Jack The Ripper' style murder is discovered, Rimmington's helps the police with the investigation and autopsy.

1897
Rimmington rests at Undercliffe cemetery.

1898
The pharmacy is run by his sone George until the Hirst family take over in 1940.

Present
Rimmington's celebrates over 175 years in business.
Awards & Recognition
Rimmington’s was awarded the blue plaque award for Bradford in honour of Felix Marsh Rimmington, Bradford’s legendary Borough Analyst.
Recognising Rimmington’s value as a scientific expert for the authorities in
Bradford, Rimmington is also considered to be a pioneer of many modern forensic science techniques and public health initiatives.
